I've been knitting & crocheting now for about 8 years. I've amassed quite a collection. What do you do with all of the ones that you accumulate? I am never going to knit and crochet everything I want out of them. And now that Ravelry exists and there are so many designs published straight to the Rav platform, I see and cast those on faster than the ones in magazines.
I don't really have an answer, but it is getting the point where I need to find one because I am running out of room. Options so far:
- Recycle them all. If I need a pattern in the future, I can get an e-version.
- Go through all of the magazines. Tear out the pattern instructions I am interested in and recycle the rest of the magazines.
- Keep them all and buy more storage.
Thoughts? What do you do?
I periodically go through and tear out the ones that I want. Then eventually I go through all of those again and get rid of more. I agree everything is at our fingertips and it is hard to keep things that we know we can easily access again.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the #2 option. There may be an older pattern that you really want to knit someday that you won't be able to find on the internet. Buy a "D" ring binder, put the patterns in their own sleeves and see if that helps cut down on space....
ReplyDeleteI think that is what I am leaning towards!
DeleteI've been debating this myself. I don't buy the magazines just for the patterns, but for the other content. I think that going through the, keeping what you like and recycling the rest is probably the best option. Then you could have a binder or two with patterns instead of a lot of magazines taking up space. I've got one more magazine holder and once I fill that one up, I'll be doing that with mine! I've been working on the same thing with my cooking magazines since I've been collecting those for a lot longer then knitting magazines. :)
ReplyDeleteI think that you're right. I might have to get myself some fancy new binders to show off though! (And help organize the mass!)
